Natural Gas Safety: What To Do If You Smell Gas.
IF YOU SMELL A SLIGHT ODOR OF NATURAL GAS INSIDE YOUR HOME:
- Check your pilot lights or see if a burner valve has been left partially on.
- If the source of the odor can't be located or persists, call Upper Cumberland Gas immediately at 484-9380 (24 hours a day). An Upper Cumberland Gas representative will come to your home and investigate.
IF THE SMELL OF GAS IS EXTREMELY STRONG INSIDE YOUR HOME, FOLLOW THESE INSTRUCTIONS:
- DO NOT operate switches or electrical devices or pull any plugs from outlets.
- DO NOT light any matches or use any naked flames.
- Evacuate the building at once.
- DO NOT use telephones or cell phones in the building.
- Use a phone outside of the building, such as a neighbor's phone to call Upper Cumberland Gas.
- Turn the gas off at the control valve near the gas meter.
- DO NOT re-enter your home until an Upper Cumberland Gas representative arrives and says it's ok to do so.
IF YOU SMELL NATURAL GAS OUTDOORS, CALL UPPER CUMBERLAND GAS IMMEDIATELY.
